In order to successfully enter into higher education studies in Germany, foreign applicants must demonstrate a certain level of proficiency within the German language equal to level C1 (mastery) or B2(advanced), based on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). All courses offered by public universities require students to take classes in either their native language or German depending on which subject area they enroll in whereas private colleges often offer bilingual classes where both English and German may be used as means of communication with professors and peers alike.
TestDaF: This test consists of four parts (Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Written Expression, and Oral Communication) which requires applicants who have studied German for at least two years or more at an academic level institution abroad.
